Terris, Barnes & Walters
Established in 1988, CleanSweep Campaigns began in Michael Terris’ apartment in the Haight-Ashbury. The firm grew and evolved through numerous iterations over the next 30 years. From Angela Alioto’s first successful race for Supervisor in San Francisco in 1988 – and the nation’s first domestic partnership campaign in 1989 – the firm went national in the 1990 campaign cycle. With the addition of partners Barry Barnes and Erica Walters, the firm evolved into Terris, Barnes & Walters by 2003. Over the years we added new partners and created new divisions. Most recently, we welcomed the return of alumnus Mitchell Lester who brought his expertise in fundraising direct mail to the firm. We also created a new division called TBWBH Props & Measures that specializes in non-partisan tax and bond measures/initiatives (click here for more information). In 2019, after all these changes, we moved away from individual partner names. Today, the same firm, the same dedicated partners and staff – with the same emphasis on quality – is now known as CleanSweep Campaigns.
